Last Days

Busy last day at the Hospital Loma de Luz. Dr Rich repaired a bilateral club foot on a three year old and replaced a rod in a mans femur. Amber and  Lori finished sorting and finding homes for our supplies we brought down and a little recovery. We also had the joy of spending a little time with Xiomara and her family. Now packing a little after a great time of food and fellowship with our "next door neighbors" Mark and Heidi. Off to Ceiba and then San Pedro. Can't wait to see John and Penny Alden!

Made it to the hotel in San Pedro Sula. Just had a nice swim and enjoying a great visit with John and Penny Alden. Said ASTA LUEGO to our friends at the hospital then braved the drive to the capital! As you can see....traffic doesn't always mean other cars! Anyway...dinner tonight then a god nights sleep. We all can't wait to see our families♥

Dinner! — at Apartahotel Villa Nuria.

Good Morning from Honduras

Well yesterday was a busy day! Dr Rich was in clinic and surgery all day and Amber and Lori...not to be outdone...went to the beach :O
Well to be fair we did help someone move and made sure a patient had the right meds.....but other than that, it was our fun day! This morning the three of us went up to the water tower at the top of the hill to start the day off right! Rich is back in surgery today and Amber and I will be recovering. Oh, and for those of you who feel bad for Rich...don't. He went to the beach Wednesday! :-)

Another Day

So...lots to share! Had the privilege of helping Dr Rich in the OR. Amber was his trusty sidekick (otherwise know as a first assist!) And I the official xray extraordinaire! Our new friend Valerie had a repair of foot to relive pain and help with the position. Surgery went really well and we expect her to have a full recovery. It was a good thing for Rich we were there. I don't know how he gets along without us in the states ;-) surgery started at 6 and by the time we were home it was 10:30. After a good night sleep we came back down to the hospital today to continue helping with recoveries and we had another birth...that's 4 so far! Enjoy the pics! Well.....2. All others too gruesome for the web

Another Update

Ok....last night we were called in for a labor patient who was 6cm. The only RN in the hospital could not handle her and all the other patients so Amber and I were happy to oblige. She progressed slowly...another labor patient came in and delivered quickly before our first patient did.....so finally delivery at 242 am! Home and in bed at 4ish..whew. We were able to use our ventilator for CPAP as well! Check out the pics! The picture of myself and the other gringa is a preop pic. Valerie is a missionary/optometrist in Tegusigalpa having a foot surgery with Dr Rich! Fun getting to know her. All is well. Thanks for thoughts and prayers....♥ — at Hospital Loma De Luz.

Extra trip

As some of you maybe aware Rich Owens, Amber Shields and Lori Bell are currently in Honduras at Hospital Loma de Luz for a week. As Lori is updating her facebook page from her phone she has asked for those posts to be copied here for you all.

Saturday Feb 2
Hello! Made it to Houston. Already met interesting people on there own trek to Honduras. Unable to bring important compressed air that was needed for the ABG (blood gas) machine. Pray for a solution to that. Thank you Mary B. Strahm for our Starbucks coffee cards! Boarding at 9am. Thanks for thoughts and prayers. Stay tuned for more of Rich, Amber and Loris awesome adventures ;-) — at George Bush Intercontinental Airport - Houston.

Sunday Feb 3
Safe and sound at Hospital Loma de Luz! Fun and uneventful drive today. Hit the grocery store in Ceiba and just ended the day with a super owl party and a great reunion or introduction to all the awesome missionaries here. We are so blessed to come here and spend time at this amazing place! More to come tomorrow. —

Monday Feb 4
A surgeon for each hand. Lucky patient! Machete attack and serious damage. Father and son. Dr Rich and Dr Jeff fixed them both up and Amber and I with help from Jenna our awesome interpreter recovered them. Also, picture of Amber unpacking. Busy week ahead!

Tuesday Feb 5
Up and off to the hospital. A loabor patient waiting and lots of ortho surgery patient to recover! Rich is super busy in the OR today. Had a great dinner (late) with a Tegucigalpa missionary couple and the CRNA (anesthesia) that is down for our week. Lots of laughs.
